Best Buddies

Nathanh and Thianna - where do I begin?  Are they best friends or worst enemies?  Most of the time they really do get along well, about 80% of the time that is.  But the other 20% it is like a minefield!

Mostly, I would have to say Nathanh is demanding and impatient - he wants Thianna to do what he wants when and how he wants. But as Thianna has gotten better at expressing herself and become more sure of herself she doesn't want to just do what he says and this causes a rift.  However, Nathanh and Thianna both know that he needs her.  Thianna is brave, she will go down to the basement alone, Nathanh will not.  So when he wants something that is in the basement he needs Thianna to accompany him downstairs.  And this gives her power!

It is not all Nathanh though.  Thianna definitely knows how to push her brother's buttons.  To get him really mad all she has to do is ignore him and not answer him.  Or if he is not playing with her she will quickly dash into his room, touch a piece of Lego and run back out.  Then the chase is on!

But honestly, most of the time they get along well, play together, and miss each other when apart.  Nathanh always beams a little bit when he gets to introduce his sister to someone.  Somebody (rather inappropriately) asked me if they were brother and sister (meaning biological siblings) the other day.  I tried to quietly answer the question but Nathanh heard me and rushed in with "yes we are."   I also get asked a lot (and by a lot I mean about twice a week) whether they are twins.  I just say "no, he is short and she is tall. Talk to them and you'll quickly notice a difference." Which is all true.   I think this is kind of funny because although their height is fairly close, they really do not look alike.  Nathanh is skinny and has a very dark skin tone and Thianna is much bigger and has a light skin tone.  They weigh the exact same though!

Here are some Nathanh and Thianna pictures.

Mother's Day

Just before their first soccer practice.

Nathanh after Tae Kwon Do in his new uniform.  When I suggested a picture he wanted it to be with Thianna.

At soccer camp one day.  They just wanted to snuggle a bit:)

Practice camping in the backyard.

Bike riding

Just because - at the park.

Thianna "reading" to Nathanh.

Walking to Nathanh's Tae Kwon Do.

So really I think they are pretty good friends.

Happy Birthday Nathanh!

I can't believe my little guy turned five this past weekend.  I mean - HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?  Time goes far too quickly.

We seemed to celebrate for days.  On Thursday Nathanh took cupcakes to preschool to celebrate with his friends.  He was most excited about the fact that they sang Happy Birthday to him and he got to have the first cupcake!

It was a typical Saturday morning, the kids climbed into bed with us first thing and we tried to keep them quiet and still! But suddenly Nathanh exclaimed "Hey, I'm 5!"  After that there was no going back to sleep so we went downstairs and I made pancakes (Nathanh's choice) for breakfast while Nathanh opened presents.  I think it is safe to say he liked Thianna's best...StarWars Lego.  Yup, she knows her brother very well!

Part of my and Erwin's gift to Nathanh was a whale watching adventure. Nathanh loves orcas and he has asked to go whale watching a couple of times so we thought this would be a great opportunity.  What we didn't know was that StarWars Lego trumps whale watching.  So when Nathanh realized that he couldn't build his Lego right away because he and Thianna had ice skating lessons and then we were leaving straight from there, he had a slight meltdown...

But all was good in the end and they both enjoyed seeing the orcas in the wild.  We also stalked a humpback whale for about 20 minutes so that was cool too.

Sorry, the whale pictures are on my camera and I can't seem to sign into blogger on my computer...grrr.

Of course as soon as we got home Nathanh went straight to work on his Lego!

On Sunday we had some friends over for Nathanh's birthday party.  Luckily it was wonderful, warm weather and I put up our bouncy water slide for the kids to play on.

And to end off the birthday festivities, we had family over for more birthday cake on Monday!

Happy Birthday to my amazing, creative, bright, energetic, affectionate, not so little boy!
